Edward J Malik, O.D.

Born and raised on the North shore of Boston, Massachusetts, Edward Joseph Malik studied music at the Don Carr studio, studied stage design and lighting with Fr. Frank Tosti and worked as a technical director in television. While still in high school, he built a working radio station in a backyard shed.

Eventually landing in Las Vegas in 1976. Malik attended and graduated in the first class from Bonanza High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. While at UNLV, Malik was active in the Las Vegas Jazz Society, worked as an entertainment writer for several local publications, and hosted a weekly jazz radio show from the Dunes Hotel as part of the original staff of KUNV-FM. Malik also continued recording and performing music with several groups, including Tomboy. Working at Valley Hospital, while studying pre-med, he met his future wife, Lauren.

Malik attended the Southern California College of Optometry, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Visual Psychophysics and a Doctor of Optometry degree. His thesis explored the connections between biological vision systems and robotic vision systems. Malik’s professional internships included the Optometric Center of Los Angeles and the VA medical center in Las Vegas under the direction of John Potter, O.D.

After several years of practice along the Southern California coast, Malik returned to Las Vegas to establish Eyes & Optics, Ltd. on Rainbow Boulevard in 1987, which quickly became known as the trend-setting, cosmopolitan optical shop that has been featured in “Exclusively Las Vegas,” “Best Places in Las Vegas,” “Vision Monday,” and also featured in a cover story of “Eyecare Business Magazine”.

In 1990 Malik established The Shade Brigade Sunglass Company adjacent to the MGM Grand, and in 1998 Caesars Palace asked him to create a luxury optical shop for the new Appian Way Shops. This invitation became Oculus Fine Optics in Caesars Palace. Oculus showcases the finest designers in the world and has been featured in industry publications for its design and ability to attract loyal clientele from around the world.

Malik resides just outside Las Vegas in Red Rock Canyon with his wife Lauren and their two children. From there, he operates Turtlehead Studio and ScrumptdillyDisc, a production company currently producing music with the band, the Melancholics.


Hilaire Pressley, O.D.

Dr. Hilaire Pressley graduated with honors from University of Nevada Las Vegas in 1996. She received her Bachelor of Science in Integrative and Organismal Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She continued her education at the University of Houston College of Optometry receiving her Doctorate in Optometry in 2001. Dr. Pressley completed a residency, through Pacific University, in Ocular Disease, Refractive and Ocular Surgery in 2002. She has worked closely with the Lions Club traveling to Villahermosa, Mexico to deliver eye care for over 400 less fortunate and homeless individuals and is an Ophthalmic Associate with Research to Prevent Blindness.

Dr. Pressley has been a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) since 1997 and a member of the Nevada Optometric Association (NOA) since 2001. Dr. Pressley served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Nevada Optometric Association from 2009-2011 and is currently the President-Elect of the NOA. She was recently elected Vice-Chair for the NOA’s Political Action Committee (NOA-PAC). Dr. Pressley practices full scope primary eye care including ocular disease, pediatrics, advanced contact lens fittings, geriatric care and she offers pre and post operative care for cataract and refractive procedures. She has a special interest in anterior segment/ corneal pathology and management. In 2011 Dr. Pressley received the Presidential award from the AOA-PAC and is one of the first Optometrist in the State of Nevada to be an Active candidate for the American Board of Optometry.

Dr. Pressley was born and raised in Las Vegas and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. She enjoys many activities outside of work. She is a competitive kettlebell weight lifter and is a rank one athlete with the American Kettlebell Club. Dr. Pressley enjoys all sorts of physical activity including volleyball, biking, weight lifting and horseback riding. She has been married to her husband, Michael for 4 years and they have 3 adorable furry felines that keep them busy! Together they enjoy traveling, going to concerts and dining out at the wonderful restaurants Las Vegas has to offer.
